Victorian U.G.L.Y. Bartender winners are making money with their new ice machine

Cunninghams Hotel were the proud Victorian winner of the 2011 U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year competition for the Leukaemia Foundation, thanks to their "U.G.L.Y." Bartender Adrian Lowrie.

As principal national sponsor of the campaign, we awarded the highest fundraiser in each state with one of our Hoshizaki ice machines.

Owners Michael and Gail Blake were ecstatic with their prize, and have located the ice maker back of house where they use the ice machine to service their bars, and use in food preparation.

"Our patrons love ice in their drinks and now that we have a Hoshizaki ice machine we can keep our customers happy as their drinks are served cold and stay cold."

Supporting Plates for Mates' Food Plates Roar Fundraiser

We are constantly inspired by the generosity and ingenuity of those around us, and Plates for Mates is a prime example of this.

A house fire on Boxing Day 2011 claimed the lives of well-known chef Matthew Golinski's wife and children. Matt was also severely burned in the fire.

From this tragedy, Matt's close chef mates formed Plates for Mates, offering an opportunity for the hospitality industry to assist Matt's recovery and The McComb Foundation.

We were proud to support this fundraising in the recent Food Plates Roar event initiated by our friends at Food Strategy.

Staff at The Merrywell requested Hoshizaki Ice

The Merrywell is now open at corner Clarendon St and Crown Riverside, Melbourne.

A two-storey restaurant, bar and terrace, the venue boasts a cocktail list the envy of many bars in Melbourne as well as a wide range of boutique beers on tap, Vestal purified water and a wide range of premium wines.

We were thrilled to learn that the team had requested Hoshizaki ice to improve the quality of their cocktails and chilled beverages. So we were delighted to supply them with:

Vale Michael Abraham

Michael John Abraham 13 January 1978 - 2 April 2012

Michael joined Lancer Pacific Pty Ltd on 20 November 2000 as a store-man in our Sydney branch after graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce.

Having learned the business literally from the ground up Michael was promoted to the Business Development Manager. In this role Michael developed strong relationships with many customers, some of whom made the trip to Auckland to pay their respects at his funeral.

On 2 May 2005 Michael was offered and accepted the role of Warehouse Manager at head office and re-located to Adelaide. Michael's systems knowledge, attention to detail and incredible customer focus resulted in great improvements in that area of our business.

In 2007 Michael was promoted to Manager New Zealand, which he commenced on 27 August 2007. Then in June 2011 Michael was promoted to Region Manager NZ, NSW & ACT. Michael led the NZ business to record sales, profitability and ROCE in 2011.

New bar for Eagle Street Pier

Mr & Mrs G's Riverside Bar preview by Food Strategy

Veteran restaurateurs Andy and Marcia Georges are in the process of building a neighbouring bar to their Eagle Street Pier restaurant, Il Centro.

Named Mr & Mrs G's River Bar (after Andy and Marcia), the location boasts stunning views of Brisbane River, and will have its own kitchen providing a share plate-type to complement the high quality drinks on offer.

We're thrilled to be asked by the designers, Food Strategy, to assist with the beer dispensing system and supply of Hoshizaki ice machines.

Il Centro's sommelier, Shawn Gomez is planning the wine and cocktail lists, which is expected to offer a range of classic cocktails and newer styles with a twist, that our ice is sure to enhance.
